The Sensex opened with a huge positive gap of 39 points at 7,651. After moving in a range of 76 points - high of 7,672 and low of 7,596 - the index reversed the declining trend to close with a gain of 48 points (0.64%) at 7,660. The sectoral indices, too, finished with gains today. The BSE SmallCap Index zoomed 3% (161 points) to 5,594. The BSE Metal Index advanced 2.2% (134 points) to 6,216. The BSE PSU Index was up 1.3% (61 points) at 4,688. The mood was extremely bullish - out of 2,635 scrips traded, 2,110 advanced, 492 declined and 33 were unchanged today. ONGC gained over 2% (Rs 20) to Rs 993. SBI added Rs 7 to Rs 781, and ITC was also up Rs 7 at Rs 1,704, HLL was marginally higher at 162. Wipro advanced 3.5% (Rs12) to Rs 364. TCS was up Rs 22 at Rs 1,322. Satyam was up Rs 6 at Rs 498, and Infosys was up Rs 4 at Rs 2,271. BHEL zoomed 5% (Rs 49) to Rs 1,106. Bajaj gained over 4% (Rs 60) to Rs 1,405. Ranbaxy, L&T, Tata Power, Tata Steel, Hindalco, Bharti, Cipla and Hero Honda also finished with gains. HDFC dropped 1.6% (Rs 14) to Rs 886. ICICI Bank declined 1.5% (Rs 7) to Rs 481. Dr. Reddy's, Tata Motors, ACC, Reliance Energy, HDFC Bank and Grasim also declined. Visualsoft zoomed 15% (Rs 23) to Rs 180. Rolta jumped 14.5% to Rs 142. Mphasis declined 5% (Rs 12) to Rs 239. Reliance was the most active counter with a turnover of Rs 113 crore followed by Reliance Capital (Rs 109 crore), Aftek (Rs 84 crore), VSNL (Rs 80 crore) and SBI (Rs 59 crore). |
