The NSE Nifty is up 23 points at 5,138.
Ranbaxy has surged 2.6% to Rs 507, while HDFC Bank and Hindustan unilever have gained around 2% to Rs 1,505 and Rs 243, respectively.
Satyam has advanced 1.7% to Rs 492. Larsen & Toubro is up 1.5% at Rs 3,008.
Jaiprakash Associates and SBI have added 1% each to Rs 268 and Rs 1,696, respectively.
DLF, Tata Motors and Reliance Communications are the other major gainers.
Ambuja Cements has tumbled 1.4% to Rs 111, and Infosys has shed 1% each to Rs Rs 1,874.
HDFC is down 0.8% at Rs 2,770.
