Sensex up 54pts; Bharti, Rel Comm shine

The Sensex is now up 54 points to 16,402.

Reliance Energy has soared 3.5% to Rs 1,023. Reliance Communications and Bharti Airtel have surged 2.5% each to Rs 581 and Rs 912, respectively.

Grasim has rallied over 2% to Rs 3,450, and Ambuja Cements has added 1.7% to Rs 149.

Reliance, Maruti and Hindustan Unilever have moved up 1.3% each to Rs 2,222, Rs 922 and Rs 217, respectively.

SBI and ACC are up 1% each at Rs 1,778 and Rs 1,149, respectively.

Satyam has plunged 3.7% to Rs 406. ITC has shed 2.5% to Rs 189.

TCS has slipped 2.3% to Rs 978, and Infosys has declined 1.8% to Rs 1,768.

Ranbaxy has dropped nearly 2% to Rs 400. Cipla is down 1.5% to Rs 166.

Wipro and NTPC are down over 1% each to Rs 428 and Rs 187, respectively.

Out of 2,764 stocks traded so far, 1,483 have declined, 1,220 have advanced and 61 are unchanged.
