Sensex up 56pts; Dr.Reddy's gains 3%

The Sensex opened with a gap of 25 points at 12,373. The index touched a high of 12,444, and is now up 56 points at 12,404.

Dr.Reddy's recorded a freak trade at Rs 1,917 at the opening bell. The stock is now up 2.7% at Rs 1,690.

Hindalco has surged 2.4% to Rs 230. Gujarat Ambuja and Larsen & Toubro are up 1.7% each at Rs 121 and Rs 2,680, respectively.

Wipro, Satyam, NTPC, Tata Steel, ONGC and Reliance are the other smart gainers.

HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank have declined over 1% each to Rs 871 and Rs 653, respectively.
