Sensex up 60pts, Tata Power gains 4%

The Sensex opened on a steady note at 7,747 as against the last close of 7,745. After dipping to a low of 7,727 in early deals, the index zoomed to a high of 7,808 in late noon deals - a gain of 81 points from the intra-day low. The Sensex finally closed with a gain of 60 points (0.78%) at 7,805.

All the sectoral indices largely finished at higher levels today. The BSE SmallCap Index gained 1.6% (94 points) to 5,925. The BSE Oil & Gas Index was up 1.3% (47 points) at 3,630. The BSE Teck Index was up a per cent (22 points) at 2,052.

The mood continued to be bullish - out of 2,658 scrips traded, 1,507 advanced, 1,104 declined and 47 were unchanged today.

Tata Power zoomed 4.5% (Rs 19) to Rs 451.

Reliance advanced 1.7% (Rs 12) to Rs 720. While ITC was up Rs 23 at Rs 1,732, SBI gained Rs 8 to Rs 797. ONGC was up Rs 4 at Rs 981.

Infosys moved up over a per cent (Rs 30) to Rs 2,376. TCS added Rs 22 to Rs 1,406. While Satyam was up Rs 7 at Rs 530, Wipro was up Rs 6 at Rs 365.

Bajaj Auto gained over 2% (Rs 34) to Rs 1,414. Dr. Reddy's was up Rs 7 at Rs 800. ACC, HDFC, Hindalco, Reliance Energy, BHEL and NTPC also finished with gains.

HDFC Bank dropped over a per cent (Rs 7) to Rs 640. Tata Motors, L&T, Cipla, Maruti and Tata Steel also declined.

Adani Exports zoomed 13% (Rs 8) to Rs 72. 

Fertiliser scrips logged gains. Indo-Gulf Fertilisers gained 10% to Rs 155. Chambal Fertilisers was up 7% at Rs 39. FACT moved up 3% to Rs 36. National Fertilisers, however, declined 3% to Rs 49.

Reliance was the most active counter with a turnover of Rs 168 crore followed by GTL (Rs 129 crore), MphasiS (Rs 119 crore), Reliance Capital (Rs 103 crore) and IFSL (Rs 97 crore).
