Sensex up 61pts; Mid-cap index drops 1%

The Sensex has wiped out most of its gains and is now up 61 points at 12,476.

The Mid-cap index has slipped 1.2% to 5130, and the Small-cap index has dropped 1.6% to 6172.

Wipro has surged 2.8% to Rs 552. Infosys has advanced 2.4% to Rs 2,055, and Satyam has added 2.3% to Rs 423.

Maruti has rallied 2% to Rs 795. ICICI Bank and ONGC have gained around 1.5% each at Rs 834 and Rs 785, respectively.

Hindalco has plunged 4.5% to Rs 128. NTPC and Tata Steel have shed 3.3% each to Rs 132 and Rs 407, respectively.

Hero Honda has tumbled 2.7% to Rs 666. Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja have dropped over 2% each to Rs 2,052 and Rs 109, respectively.

Tata Motors has slipped 1.6% to Rs 725. HDFC Bank and Bajaj Auto are down around 1% each to Rs 918 and Rs 2,430, respectively.

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,419 stocks traded so far, 1,604 have declined, 762 have advanced and 53 are unchanged.
