Sensex up 71pts; REL surges 4%

The Sensex is now up 71 points at 11,976.

Reliance Energy has surged nearly 4% to Rs 482. Larsen & Toubro has moved up 2% to Rs 2,514.

Tata Steel, ITC, Dr.Reddy's and Hindalco have advanced around 1.5% each to Rs 522, Rs 191, Rs 739 and Rs 181, respectively.

Maruti, Wipro and NTPC are up 1% each at Rs 902, Rs 520 and Rs 127, respectively.

ONGC has slipped over 1% to Rs 1,214.

Out of 2,339 stocks traded so far, 1,517 have advanced, 744 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
