Sensex up 75pts; Hindalco soars 7%

The Sensex is now up 75 points at 11,971.

Hindalco has surged 6.8% to Rs 218. Tata Steel has rallied 4.6% to Rs 637.

Reliance and Tata Motors have gained over 3% each to Rs 951 and Rs 952, respectively.

Grasim has advanced 2.2% to Rs 2,360. Bajaj Auto has added 1.7% to Rs 2,998, and Maruti is up 1.4% at Rs 886.

HDFC has declined 2.2% to Rs 1,273. NTPC has dropped nearly 2% to Rs 140.

TCS has shed 1.5% to Rs 1,988. Ranbaxy, Cipla and Bharti Tele are trading with losses of over 1% each.

The market breadth continues to remain positive. Out of 2,467 stocks traded so far, 1,423 have moved up, 983 have declined and 61 are unchanged.
