Sensex up 78pts; tech stocks shine

The Sensex is now up 78 points at 16,978.

Satyam has zoomed 4.4% to Rs 430, and Wipro has soared 3.5% to Rs 451. Infosys and TCS have surged nearly 3% each to Rs 1,822 and Rs 1,031, respectively.

HDFC has rallied 2.5% to Rs 2,455. Tata Steel has moved up nearly 2% to Rs 758.

Ambuja Cements, ICICI Bank, Cipla and Reliance Communications are up over 1% each at Rs 149, Rs 1,002, Rs 171 and Rs 601, respectively.

Reliance and Reliance Energy have dropped around 2.5% each at Rs 2,344 and Rs 1,060, respectively.

HDFC Bank has declined 2% to Rs 1,369. Hindalco has dropped 1.4% to Rs 165.

Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto and NTPC are down around 1% each at Rs 732, Rs 2,491 and Rs 194, respectively.

Out of 2,696 stocks traded so far, 1,560 have advanced, 1,060 have declined and 76 are unchanged.
