Sensex up 790pts; HDFC surges 8%

The Sensex is now up 790 points at 16,080.

Jaiprakash (JP) Associates has zoomed 10.5% to Rs 221, and DLF has soared 10% to Rs 658.

Reliance Energy has surged nearly 9.8% to Rs 1,263. ICICI Bank has rallied over 9% to Rs 878.

HDFC has gained 8.5% at Rs 2,587. Infosys and TCS have moved up around 7% each to Rs 1,460 and Rs 880, respectively.

HDFC Bank has advanced 6% to Rs 1,417. Wipro and Tata Steel have added 5.5% each to Rs 421 and Rs 625, respectively.

Reliance Communications, SBI and BHEL are up over 5% each to Rs 536, Rs 1,733 and Rs 1,966, respectively.

Satyam, Hindalco and ONGC are up nearly 5% each at Rs 410, Rs 161 and Rs 1,049, respectively.

Out of 2,656 stocks traded so far, 1,910 have advanced, 705 have declined and 41 are unchanged.
