The Sensex opened at 9721 points, up 73 points. It is now trading 84 points higher at 9731.
The Nifty opened 4 points higher at 2963, and is now trading at 2984, up 25 points.
Sterlite is the top Sensex gainer, up 3.8% to Rs 270.60. Hindalco and Tata Steel have gained 3.2% each to Rs 53.30 and Rs 224 respectively. Satyam has gained 2.85%.
There are only three losers in the Sensex - Ranbaxy, NTPC, Hindustan Unilever - all trading below 0.5%.
