Sensex up 80pts; breadth +ve

The Sensex continues to pare gains and is now up 80 points at 8,983. The index had touched a high of 9,183 in the opening tades.

ONGC has soared 3.8% to Rs 705. Bharti Airtel, Reliance Infrastructure and HDFC Bank have rallied around 3.5% each to Rs 658, Rs 522 and Rs 859, respectively.

ICICI Bank, Tata Power, Wipro and NTPC have gained over 3% each at Rs 333, Rs 674, Rs 241 and Rs 158, respectively.

BHEL has moved up 2.8% to Rs 1,337. Jaiprakash Associates has added 2.5% to Rs 59.

Hindalco, DLF and Sterlite are up around 2% each at Rs 53, Rs 195 and Rs 219, respectively.

 

Ranbaxy has plunged 4.8% to Rs 204. Mahindra & Mahindra has shed 2% at Rs 294, and HDFC has slipped over 1% to Rs 1,357.

The market breadth is fairly positive - out of 2,273 stocks traded so far, 1,300 have advanced, 890 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
