Sensex up 91pts in early trades; Sterlite down 3%

The Sensex opened 70 points higher at 9,161, and touched a high of 9,215 in opening trades. The index is now up 91 points at 9,182.

Jaiprakash Associates has surged 3.7% to Rs 71. Reliance Infrastructure and Tata Motors have rallied 2.3% each to Rs 532 and Rs 135, respectively.

ICICI Bank has moved up nearly 2% to Rs 398. Reliance, Reliance Communications and Tata Steel have gained 1.7% each at Rs 1,309, Rs 163 and Rs 185, respectively.

Hindalco, Ranbaxy, Bharti Airtel and TCS are up around 1.5% each.

Sterlite, however, has dropped 3% to Rs 256.
