Sensex up 98pts; NTPC, ONGC gain 3%

The Sensex is now up 98 points at 16,021.

The NSE Nifty is up 37 points at 4,837.

Larsen & Toubro and DLF have zoomed 7% each to Rs 2,920 and Rs 728, respectively. 2,891. Bajaj Auto has soared 4.4% to Rs 2,072.

NTPC and ONGC have surged 3% each to Rs 191 and Rs 997, respectively.

ACC has gained 2.5% at Rs 786. Grasim and HDFC Bank have rallied over 2% each to Rs 2,800 and Rs 1,340, respectively.

Ambuja Cements, BHEL and Reliance are up around 1.5% each at Rs 122, Rs 1,940 and Rs 2,304, respectively.

Satyam has plunged over 4% to Rs 391. HDFC has tumbled 2.7% to Rs 2,500.

Maruti and Bharti Airtel have shed 2.5% each at Rs 872 and Rs 784, respectively.

Tata Motors and Cipla have dropped 2% each to Rs 660 and Rs 197, respectively.

Wipro and TCS are down over 1% each at Rs 397 and Rs 823, respectively.

Out of 2,640 stocks traded so far, 1,934 have advanced, 670 have declined and 36 are unchanged.
