Sensex up marginally; Hindalco, Ranbaxy drop 5%

The Sensex opened 126 points higher at 8,905 backed by positive cues from the global markets. The index, thereafter, touched a high of 8,928, then pared gains and touched a low of 8,809. The Sensex is now up 44 points at 8,823.

Bharti Airtel has surged over 4% to Rs 608. ICICI Bank and Jaiprakash Associates have rallied 2.5% each to Rs 379 and Rs 67, respectively.

ACC and Sterlite have moved up over 2% each at Rs 489 and Rs 242, respectively.

Grasim has advanced 1.4% to Rs 1,157, and TCS has added 1% to Rs 496.

Hindalco and Ranbaxy have plunged 5% each to Rs 45 and Rs 194, respectively.

 

DLF has shed 3.3% at Rs 175. Mahindra & Mahindra has dropped 2.5% to Rs 288.
