Sensex up nearly 600pts; metal stocks lead

The Sensex continues to move higher and is now up 582 points at 10,546.

Updated at 1425 hrs

The Sensex is now up 471 points at 10,435. The BSE Metal index has surged over 10% (530 points) to 5,682.

Sterlite has zoomed over 14% to Rs 281, and Tata Steel has soared nearly 12% to Rs 213. Hindalco has surged over 11% to Rs 67.

Reliance Infrastructure has rallied over 9% to Rs 612. Jaiprakash Associates has gained 8.3% at Rs 95.

BHEL and ONGC have moved up 7.7% each to Rs 1,515 and Rs 798, respectively. ICICI Bank has advanced over 7% to Rs 463.

 

Tata Power has gained nearly 6% at Rs 781. Reliance, Bharti Airtel, Satyam and Larsen & Toubro are up around 5.5% each at Rs 1,286, Rs 686, Rs 293 and Rs 918, respectively.

ITC has slipped 1.3% to Rs 172.

The market breadth is fairly positive - out of 2,528 stocks traded so far, 1,654 have advanced, 818 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
