Sensex up over 200pts in early trades

The Sensex opened 83 points higher on the back of positive global cues. The index touched a high of 16,361, and is now up 215 points at 16,267.

Metal stocks are leading the up move with gains of 4-5% each. Hindalco has surged 5.3% to Rs 127. Sterlite has rallied 4.7% to Rs 781, and Tata Steel has added 4% to Rs 487.

Grasim, DLF and HDFC Bank have advanced 3.3% each to Rs 2,205, Rs 388 and Rs 1,668, respectively.

ICICI Bank, Jaiprakash Associates and Maruti are up 3% each.

Reliance and Tata Power however have declined over 1% each to Rs 1,976 and Rs 1,387, respectively.

ONGC too is down 1% at Rs 1,155.
