Sensex volatile, down 78pts

The Sensex has recovered from the day's low. Earlier in the day the index opened at 14,043 and slipped to a low of 13,848.

The index is displaying volatile movements and is now down 78 points at 13,983.

Maruti Suzuki has slumped 6% to Rs 980. HDFC and Mahindra & Mahindra have shed 4.5% each at Rs 2,115 and Rs 650, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro has declined 4% to Rs 1,304. ICICI Bank, Sun Pharma, SBI, BHEL, Grasim, ACC, Wipro, ITC and Hindalco are the other major losers.

Meanwhile, ONGC and Ranbaxy has surged 8% each to Rs 1,075 and Rs 235, respectively. Reliance Communications has rallied 7% to Rs 330.

 

NTPC has gained 5% at Rs 220. Jaiprakash Associates has advanced 3.5% to Rs 180.

Reliance Infrastructure, Tata Steel, DLF, Tata Motors, Tata Power and Sterlite have also moved up.

The market breadth continues to be extremely positive - out of 2,582 stocks traded, 2,243 have advanced while 292 have declined.
