Sensex volatile in early trades, up 167pts

The Sensex exhibited high volatility in early trades. After opening with a positive gap of 53 points at 18,824, the index tumbled into red to a low of 18,630.

However, the index has rebouned sharply into the positive zone and is now up 167 points at 18,938.

Reliance Energy has surged 1.7% to Rs 1,678. ACC has gained 1.4% at Rs 1,076.

Larsen & Toubro and BHEL have advanced over 1% each at Rs 3,498 and Rs 2,313, respectively.

ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank have dropped 2% each to Rs 1,123 and Rs 1,510, respectively.

Hindustan Unilever has shed 1.5% to Rs 217, and Maruti has slipped 1.3% to Rs 1,144.

Dr.Reddy's is down 1% at Rs 608.
