Sensex volatile in early trades, up 48pts

The Sensex is exhibiting high volatility in early trades. The index slipped to a low of 14,176 in opening trades, but soon rebounded and suged to a high of 14,339 - a swing of 163 points in the first five minutes of trade.

The index is now up 48 points at 14,304.

Hindalco has surged 2% to Rs 151. Reliance Communications, TCS and Reliance Energy are up around 1% each to Rs 521, Rs 1,210 and Rs 538, respectively.

HDFC Bank has shed 1.8% to Rs 1,107. Ranbaxy has slipped 1.4% to Rs 375.

HLL and Hero Honda are down 1% each at Rs 193 and Rs 707, respectively.
