The sensex today opened higher on good buying at yesterday's level, but soon slipped due to emergence of profit-selling and was quoted 24 points lower during the early trading on the BSE.

The BSE Benchmark 30-share sensitive index opened better at 7158.66 as against yesterday's close of 7151.08 and rose further to 7175.15.

However, soon it turned sharply weak and fell to a session's low of 7119, before quoted at 7126.93 at 10.30 am, showing a loss of 24.15 points over the previous close.

During the morning session, a large number of shares such as RIL, Bajaj Auto, Bhel, Infosys, L&T, Ranbaxy, Satyam, Grasim, Dr Reddy, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Tata Steel, SBI, Wipro, Maruti and Hero Honda remained weak on selling pressure.

However, rise in REL, ACC, Tata Power, TCS, ITC, ICICI Bank, HLL, ONGC and Hindalco minimised the fall in sensex.
