Sensex weakens in noon trades

The Sensex has weakened a bit, and is now down 70 points at 17,129. Our markets seem to be tracking the Asian markets which have extended losses.

The NSE Nifty is down 25 points at 5,083.

Reliance continues to trade on a lacklustre note around Rs 1,093.

Tata Steel has shed 2.5% at Rs 548.

SBI, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank have declined 1.3% each to Rs 2,291, Rs 2,889 and Rs 887, respectively.

ITC and Mahindra & Mahindra are the other prominent losers.

Hindalco has surged 3% to Rs 139. ACC has advanced over 2% to Rs 812.

Tata Power, Sterlite and Grasim have declined around 1.7% each to Rs 1,355, Rs 872 and Rs 2,405, respectively.

The market breadth has turned negative - out of 2,532 stocks traded so far, 1,370 have declined, 1,078 have advanced.

Tata Steel is the top traded stock on the BSE with a turnover of Rs 71.68 crore so far followed by HDIL (Rs 55.64 crore), SBI (Rs 49.74 crore), Reliance (Rs 36.20 crore) and DLF (Rs 36.07 crore).

Satyam leads the volume charts with trades of around 97.44 million shares. It is followed by Unitech (28.60 million), Vijaya Bank (26.26 million), Hindalco (25.64 million) and Suzlon (23.62 million).
