Sensex wipes off gains

The markets have erased all its losses and is now at 17,949, up eight points. The NSE Nifty is two points higher at 5,368.

The Sensex has reclaimed the psychological mark of 18000 in the afternoon session, led by gains in index bellweather Reliance Industries and ably supported by auto and cement stocks. The Sensex is now quoting at 18030, stronger by 89 points and the Nifty is at 5395, higher by 29 points.

The benchmark index had momentarily breached this psychological mark at the onset of the trading sesson, hitting its highest level in more than 25 months.

 

Among the leading BSE gainers, ACC is up 2.3% at Rs 973. DLF has gained 2% at Rs 334 and Tata Motors has added 1.8% at Rs 788. And index heavyweight RIL is up 1.6% at Rs 1139.

The Sensex losers are Hindustan Unilever (weakened by 1.2% at Rs 227), Sun Pharma (lost 1% at Rs 1801 and HDFC (shed 0.7% at Rs 2801.

The market breadth is positive. Out of 2802 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1981 advancing stocks as against 747 declines.
