Seven firms lose Rs 36k cr in m-cap, TCS biggest loser

Seven of the top 10 most valued firms in the BSE Sensex shed Rs 35,933 crore from their combined market capitalisation (m-cap) last week, with software major TCS emerging as the biggest loser.

M-cap of TCS dropped Rs 16,881 crore, at Rs 2,05,165 crore, as on Friday. Its shares plummeted 7.6% during the week.

The country's largest software services exporter had reported 6.1% jump in net profit for the July- September quarter, at Rs 2,301 crore -- below the market expectations.

Market leader Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) saw its m-cap dip Rs 10,281 crore at Rs 2,73,529 crore. Similarly, state-owned ONGC's worth fell Rs 1,070 crore, to Rs 2,27,062 crore.

 

Power utility NTPC's m-cap slipped by Rs 3,092 crore to Rs 1,39,554 crore, while telecom giant Bharti Airtel saw a loss of Rs 2,222 crore from its market valuation which was at Rs 1,43,508 crore.

Value of IT major Infosys declined Rs 1,260 crore, to Rs 1,56,338 crore, while FMCG honcho ITC saw its m-cap drop by Rs 1,127 crore to Rs 1,58,297 crore.

In contrast, state-owned Coal India saw an addition of Rs 4,137 crore to its value, which stood at Rs 2,07,713 crore.

Similarly, banking majors SBI and HDFC Bank saw advance in their value.

State-owned lender SBI's m-cap jumped Rs 4,197 crore to Rs 1,23,735 crore, while HDFC Bank added Rs 2,838 crore to take its value at Rs 1,13,575 crore.

RIL continued to rule the chart and ONGC held the title of second most valued company.

CIL emerged as the third most valued company, while TCS slipped to the fourth place, followed by ITC, Infosys, Bharti, NTPC, SBI and HDFC Bank.

The BSE 30-scrip benchmark index, Sensex, lost 1.73% to end the week at 16,785.64 points.
