Shoe Component Exporters Eye Sri Lanka, Want Zero Duty Regime

In a bid to increase sales, footwear component manufacturers are eyeing Sri Lanka to establish direct linkages between buyers and sellers and open warehouses in the neighbouring country.

With this objective, the first ever buyer-seller meet has been organised in Sri Lanka. Indian companies were banking on the hope that Sri Lankan footwear manufacturers would import their components from India, the president of Indian Footwear Components Manufacturers Association Mani Almal said.

He said Indian manufacturers had demanded that Sri Lanka exempt all footwear components and accessories from customs duty as it was being imported from a SAARC country.
