Silver prices today spurted by four per cent to hit the upper level limit on the Multi Commodity Exchange, tracking firm global markets.
The most-active May month contract gained 4.19 per cent to Rs 21,489 per kg in a trading volume of 8,247 lots. The July contract rose by 4.14 per cent to Rs 21,700 per kg in a turnover of 74 lots.
Market sentiment turned bullish in line with gold, which also hit upper level limit of Rs 15,292 per 10 gram at domestic futures market on firming trend in global markets.
Globally, gold prices went up by 34.60 dollars to 950.50 dollars an ounce last evening after the US Federal Reserve said it would buy up to 300 billion dollars worth of long-dated government debt, reviving bullion's appeal as a hedge against inflation.
