Silver prices surged to record levels in futures trade today by surging Rs 302 to Rs 33,800 per kg on heavy buying by speculators in tandem with a firming global trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, silver for July- month spurted by Rs 302, or 0.90 per cent, to Rs 33,800 per kg, with a business turnover of 4 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in December-month shot up by Rs 262, or 0.77 per cent, to Rs 33,435 per kg, with an open interest of two lots.

Traders said heavy buying by speculators in tandem with a firming global trend mainly led to a rise in silver prices at futures trade.

They said rising demand for the metal in domestic markets for the coming festivals and marriage season further fuelled the uptrend.
