Tracking a firming trend in global markets, silver moved up by Rs 173 to Rs 53,660 per kg in futures trading today.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, March silver rose by Rs 173, or 0.32%, to Rs 53,660 per kg, with a business turnover of 4,624 lots.

The May contract traded higher by Rs 163, or 0.30%, to Rs 54,821 per kg, with a trade volume of 139 lots.

Market analysts said reports of a firming trend overseas as the euro advanced after European finance ministers boosted their anti-crisis efforts by pledging extra funding to the International Monetary Fund and upbeat US economic data, supported the rise in silver prices at futures trade.
