Six BSE indices hit 6-mth lows

Three sectoral indices - BSE Bankex, BSE Consumer Durables and BSE IT - and three other indices - BSE Midcap, BSE Small-cap and PSU index - closed at six-month lows on Thursday even as the BSE Sensex registered the fifth largest single-day fall in its history.
 
Three other sectoral indices, namely auto, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and oil and gas, narrowly escaped hitting the similar levels.
 
The bellwether index declined 460.95 points or 4.72 per cent to close at 9,295.81 from yesterday's close of 9,756.76.
 
The BSE Midcap and Small-cap indices were the largest losers, registering a fall of over eight per cent each.
 
The mid-cap index hit a six-month low of 3870.70 during the intra-day trades and finally closed 8.21 per cent or 354 points down at 3,964.82 against yesterday's close of 4,319.20.
 
The small-cap index was down eight per cent or 422.90 points at 4,833.26 as against yesterday's close of 5,216.17. The index touched its six-month low of 4,786.33 in the intra day.
 
While Bankex, capital goods and healthcare index declined more than six per cent each, metal index fell by 5.5 per cent and FMCG by 4.6 per cent in a day.
 
The BSE Bankex closed six-month low at 4,305.20, down 305 points compared with yesterday's close of 4,609.70, the consumer durable index at 2,468.20 (2,580.54), IT index 3,384.44 (3,408.31) and PSU index 4,457.89 (4,685.62).
