Smart Portfolios continues out-performance |

We are currently mid-way through the season 2 of Smart Portfolios . As in the first season, this time too, the fund managers have continued to outperform the benchmark by wide margins. An investment of Rs 10 lakh in the Smart Portfolios benchmark S&P CNX 500 index made six months back is today valued at Rs 11.31 lakh, a gain of over 13 per cent.
In the past six months there have been enough hiccups, especially during the first two months where the average returns were largely negative. However, the fund managers through their various trading-cum-investment strategies have worked their way out. As things stand today, Ajay Parmar and Amar Ambani have reported gains in excess of 30 per cent each. At the same time, Vinay Khattar’s portfolio value has appreciated by 14.5 per cent, while Phani Sekhar has reported gains of 11.4 per cent.
Coincidentally, Phani Sekhar, who lags the benchmark marginally till date, also under-performed the benchmark last week. But, when one considers the overall returns one should note that Sekhar had joined Smart Portfolios a fortnight later as compared to others. Coming back to last week’s performance, average gains of the other three fund managers stood at over 2 per cent each while the benchmark moved up by 0.7 per cent. Last week, the fund managers cumulatively net bought shares worth around Rs 29,000.
