Soymeal exports from India in August 2014 were down to 2,778 tonne compared with 183,965 tonne in the corresponding month last year, according to Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA).
Country wise, China was the major buyer at 2,310 tonne in August 2014.
Decline in soymeal exports started December 2013 onwards due to poor supply of soybean, leading to high prices and disparity in international market, said the SOPA release. On a financial year basis, the export during current financial year i.e. April 2014 to August 2014 stood at 96,000 tonne compared with 702,000 lakh tonne in the same period last year, down 86.30%.
On Oil year basis (October 2013-September 2014), total exports during October 2013 to August 2014 stood at 2.06 million tonne as against 3.29 mn tone in the same period last year, down 37.53%.
