New Delhi, May 24, 2007 --- In an exclusive interview with NDTV, U.P Chief Minister, Mayawati told NDTV's Rahul Shrivastav that she plans to clean up her state. No one will be spared; those indulging in illegal activities will face the heat, be it the Bachchans, Mulayam Singh, his loyal deputy Amar Singh and strongman Raja Bhaiya. |
On having ministers with a criminal record in her own party and cabinet, Mayawati stated that the "The BSP has politicians and MLAs from various parties. We will improve all of them. This too is a kind of social reform." |
Mayawati also asserted that the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) follows the harder route of training and highlighting party members instead of cashing in on the glamour quotient of film stars during election campaigns. |
"I have always kept a distance from film stars. You must have noticed that BSP is one party that has not used any film star or any dancers for the election campaign. I have always kept a distance from them. In our line, I prepare other people and highlight them." |

Mayawati on taking action against the Mulayam Government |
"The people of the state have been unhappy with the policies of the previous government and there have been many complaints against them. The hopes of the people rest on us. Our actions against them will not be based on political vendetta, but it is for the people of Uttar Pradesh, who claim that criminal activities have been undertaken by them. We will investigate for the sake of our people and not political vendetta. If we find that there have been criminal activities undertaken by the previous government, then we will take legal actions against them, if they are innocent then we will not. |
"We will not take legal action against a criminal on the basis of political nor religious vendetta nor on the basis of caste difference. We did not do this, when we were in power earlier, nor will we do this now. Whether it is Raja Bhaiya or any Bhaiya or any man; if one does a wrong deed or anything illegal, then you know that in my regime, his real place will not be anywhere outside the prison, but inside the prison." |
Mayawati on wanting to make UP shine as brightly as Pink |
"The colour pink is a bright colour. It has a tendency to shine and more light comes from it. So, I would like to bring happiness in the lives of my people...I would like my state to shine as brightly and happily as my colour pink. This is the indication. I wear the colour on happy occasions. I would like to tell my people that just like one feels happy looking at the colour pink as it is bright and shines, I would want them to feel/believe that we will move forward, develop and that will make them happy." |
