A special laboratory has been set up at Chitegaon near here by the National Horticulture Research and Development Foundation (NHRDF) with the help of ISRO's Ahmedabad centre to aid the onion-crop-sector.
The geoinformatics lab has been set up in NHRDF's research complex and was yesterday opened by ISRO's Deputy Director J S Parihar.
The lab will help in onion production in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka states via calculations through satellite to develop the onion crop, colour of the product and conduct various tests.
NHRDF Director R P Gupta and Additional director Satish Bhonde were present on the occasion.
