Steady session of trade

There has not been much movement this morning. After crossing the 18000 mark at the onset of trade and slipping below this psychological level immediately thereafter, the Sensex has been hovering thereabout in the past one hour. The Sensex is now quoting at 17981, higher by 40 points and the Nifty is at 5381, up 15 points.

The leading gainers on the BSE are ACC (strengthened by 1.8% at Rs 968), DLF (rose 1.7% at Rs 333) and Reliance Communications (stronger by 1.2% at Rs 179). Tata Motors, Grasim and M&M are the other major gainers. And index heavyweight, RIL has moved up 0.3% at Rs 1125.

 

The realty sector has extended its gains. Sobha Developers has firmed up by nearly 4% at Rs 302, while HDIL and DLF have added more than 1% at Rs 305 amnd Rs 333 respectively.

The Sensex losers are Sun Pharma (weakened by 1.2% at Rs 1799), HDFC (shed 0.6% at Rs 2805) and ITC (lost 0.5% at Rs 264).

The IT sector continues to lag behind; Infosys, TCS and Wipro are trading below the dotted line, albeit off their intra-day lows.

The market breadth is positive. Out of 2542 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1868 advancing stocks as against 612 declines.
