Sugar climbs further on heavy buying

The wholesale sugar prices continued to be in keen demand and further shot up by Rs 55 per quintal in the national capital today, following brisk buying by stockist and bulk consumers amid restricted supply. 

Marketmen said strong demand from retailers and bulk consumers, such as ice-cream and soft-drink manufactures amid fall in supply, kept the prices lower.

Sugar mill delivery medium and second grade prices went up from Rs 2,795-2,895 and Rs 2,775-2,875 to finish at Rs 2,800-2,950 and Rs 2,790-2,940 per quintal, respectively. 

Sugar ready medium and second grade price also moved up from Rs 3,000-3,160 and Rs 2,985-3,135 to finish at Rs 3,025-3,175 and Rs 3,000-3,150 per quintal, respectively.

Following are today's rates in Rs per quintal:

Sugar ready M-30 3,025-3,175 and S-30 3,000-3,150
Mill delivery M-30 2,800-2,950 and S-30 2,790-2,940

Sugar mill gate prices (excluding duty): Kinonni 2,910, Asmoli 2,900, Mawana 2,860, Titabi 2,850, Thanabhavan 2,810, Budhana 2800, and Dorala 2,870
