Sugar prices drifted by Rs 10 per quintal in the national capital today following ample supply from mills against slackened demand.

Market analysts said despite summer season demand, adequate availability of stocks following increased supplies from mills, mainly led to the fall in sugar prices.

Meanwhile, the government released 18.57 lakh tonne of free sale sugar including 2.07 lakh tonne levy for the month of June, which further put pressure on the prices.

In the national capital, sugar ready medium fell from Rs 2,920-3,020 to Rs Rs 2,910-3,010, while second grade price moved down from Rs 2,890-3,010 to settle at Rs 2,880-3,000 per quintal.

Mill delivery medium and second grade price also fell by Rs 10 each to Rs 2,700-2,900 and Rs 2,675-2,875 per quintal, respectively.
