Sugar ends mixed in lacklustre trade

Medium sugar prices rose modestly at the Vashi wholesale market here today on the back of fresh offtake from stockists and retailers. 

Meanwhile, small sugar variety slipped owing to subdued domestic demand coupled with adequate supply positions.  

Medium sugar (M-30) gained Rs 7 per quintal to Rs 2,808/2,911 from Wednesday's closing level of Rs 2,801/2,911.

Small sugar (S-30), however moved down by Rs 1/6 per quintal to Rs 2,750/2,790 as compared to Rs 2,756/2,791 yesterday. 

The following are today's closing rates per quintal, with the previous rates in brackets:

Medium sugar (M-30) quality Rs 2,808/2,911 (Rs 2,801/ 2,911) and Small sugar (S-30) quality Rs 2,750/2,790 (Rs 2,756/2,791)
