Sugar firms up on brisk demand

Sugar prices firmed up at the Vashi Wholesale market here today due to rising demand from stockists amidst good retail offtake.

Demand for sugar is more from North-Eastern states and Kolkata, pushing the prices up, traders said.

Small sugar quality (S-30) strengthened by Rs 21/60 per quintal to Rs 2,891/2,921 from overnight closing level of Rs 2,831/2,900.

Medium sugar quality (M-30) also rose by Rs 20/21 per quintal to Rs 2,911/2,981, as against Rs 2,890/2,961 yesterday.

The following are today's closing rates per quintal, with the previous rates in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality Rs 2,891/2,921 (Rs 2,831/ 2,900) and medium sugar (M-30) quality Rs 2,911/2,981 (Rs 2,890/2,961)
