Sugar hardens on better offtake

Sugar prices firmed up by Rs 50 per quintal in the national capital today due to fresh buying by stockist and bulk consumers for the festivals and upcoming marriage season.

Marketmen said pick up in demand from stockist and bulk consumers, such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers, caused the rise in sugar prices.

Sugar ready medium and second grade prices improved from Rs 2,900-3,000 and Rs 2,890-2,990 to settle at Rs 2,925-3,025 and Rs 2,910-3,010 per quintal.

Mill delivery medium and second prices also gained from Rs 2,675-2,775 and Rs 2,665-2,765 to winding up at Rs 2,725-2,825 and Rs 2,700-2,800 per quintal, respectively.   

 

Among millgate section, sugar thanabhavan and budhana quoted higher at Rs 2,710 and Rs 2,700 per quintal, respectively.

Following are today's rates in Rs per quintal:

Sugar ready M-30 2,925-3,025 and S-30 2,910-3,010
Mill delivery M-30 2,725-2,825 and S-30 2,700-2,800
Sugar mill gate prices (excluding duty): Kinonni 2,820, Asmoli 2,800, Mawana 2,760, Titabi 2,750, Thanabhavan 2,710, Budhana 2700, and Dorala 2,740
