The sugar industry has finally woken up to the need for market development after years of slow sugar consumption growth at home.
The sugar companies have decided to work together to start a campaign which would highlight the beneficial affects of the sweet commodity. The campaign will be on the same lines as that of the Tea Board of India - laying emphasis on the health benefits of consuming sugar.
The campaign was expected to lead to an increase in sugar consumption, which has been increasing at a flat rate of only four per cent for the past few years. Currently, in north Indian market, prices has been skating on very thin margins.
