Sugar prices today fell up to Rs 50 per quintal on the wholesale market here owing to slackness in demand and adequate stock position.

Marketmen said adequate stock position against subdued demand following start of monsoon rains mainly led to fall in wholesale sugar prices.

Reduced offtake by soft drinks and ice-cream makers also influenced the trading sentiment, they said.

Sugar ready medium and second grade prices declined by Rs 20 each to Rs 2,880-2,980 and Rs 2,870-2,970 per quintal.
