Sugar prices spurt on brisk buying

Sugar prices firmed up by Rs 90 per quintal in the national capital today, following brisk buying by retailers and bulk consumers amid restricted supply.

Marketmen said fall in arrivals and heavy buying by stockist, retailers and bulk consumers, led the rise in sugar prices.

A firming trend in overseas markets also influenced the trading sentiment to some extent, they added.

Sugar ready medium and second grade prices climbed from Rs 2,935-3,035 and Rs 2,920-3,020 to settle at Rs 2,965-3,125 and Rs 2,950-3,100 per quintal, respectively.  

Mill delivery medium and second grade price also hardened from Rs 2,735-2,835 and Rs 2,710-2,810 to end at Rs 2,760-2,865 and Rs 2,740-2,840 per quintal, respectively.

Among millgate excluding duty section, sugar mawana and titabi winding up at Rs 2,810 and Rs 2,800 per quintal.

Following are today's rates in Rs per quintal: 

Sugar ready M-30 2,965-3,125 and S-30 2,950-3,100

Mill delivery M-30 2,760-2,860 and S-30 2,740-2,840

Sugar mill gate prices (excluding duty): Kinonni 2,840, Asmoli 2,830, Mawana 2,810, Titabi 2,800, Thanabhavan 2,760, Budhana 2750 and Dorala 2,800
