Sugar rises on pick-up in demand

Sugar prices rose by Rs 50 per quintal in the wholesale sugar market today on pick-up in retailers and bulk consumers against tight supply from mills.

Market analysts said pick up in demand from retailers and bulk consumers against restricted arrivals from mills pushed up sugar prices.

Sugar medium and second grade prices rose by Rs 50 each to Rs 3,150-3,275 and Rs 3,125-3,250 per quintal.

Similarly, the sugar mill delivery medium and second grade prices traded higher by the same margin to Rs 2,900-3,075 and Rs 2,890-3,065 per quintal.

The following were today's quotation in Rs per quintal.

Sugar ready M-30 3,150-3,275 and S-30 3,125-3,250.

Mill delivery M-30 2,900-3,075 and S-30 2,890-3,065.

Sugar mill gate prices (excluding duty): Kinonni 3,020, Asmoli 3,010, Mawana 2,985, Titabi 2,980, Thanabhavan 2,940, Budhana 2950 and Dorala 2,990.
