Sugar prices fell by 0.37 per cent to Rs 3,190 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators offloaded their positions, taking negative cues from spot market on sluggish demand against adequate supplies.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in January declined by Rs 12, or 0.37 per cent, to Rs 3,190 per quintal with an open interest of 9,630 lots.

The February contract shed Rs 6, or 0.18 per cent to Rs 3,252 per quintal in 36,410 lots.

Marketmen said offloading of positions by speculators, driven by sluggish demand against adequate supplies by the millers in the physical markets mainly kept pressure on sugar prices in futures market.
