Sugar spurts on hectic stockists offtake

Sugar prices rose sharply at the Vashi wholesale market here today due to hectic stockists and speculative offtake on expectations that the government may rise the sugar exports limit in EGoM meet later today.

Medium sugar (M-30) surged by Rs 20/30 per quintal to Rs 2,691/2,831 from its overnight closing level of Rs 2,661/ 2,811.    

Small sugar (S-30) also firmed up by Rs 15/25 per quintal to Rs 2,626/2,666 as compared to Rs 2,601/2,651 yesterday.    

The following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal), with the previous rates given in brackets:  

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 2,691/2,831 (Rs 2,661/2,811
Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 2,626/2,666 (Rs 2,601/2,651)
