Synthetic rubber (SR) production in India remained flat during the April–July period of the current financial year.
According to the latest data of the Rubber Board, total production increased to 36,938 tonne as against 35,144 tonne in the same period last year. Consumption during the period increased to 145,930 tonne as against 132,925 tonne. Tyre companies were the largest consumers and had used 107,347 tonne of SR during the period. Imports increased to 119,011 tonne from 104,780 tonne.
India produced 6,333 tonne of styrene butadiene rubber (SBR] and 26,030 tonne of poly butadiene rubber in the first four months of the current financial year. These were 5,538 tonne and 26,020 tonne respectively in the same period of 2010-11.
During 2010-11, the total SR output stood at 110,340 tonne, 5 per cent higher from 2009-10. Total consumption of SR during last fiscal was 411,830 tonne, higher by 9.8 per cent from 2009-10.
