After successfully kicking off electronic auction in three centres in south India, the Tea Board of India will start electronic trading in the North India by January 2010.
“After talking to all the stakeholders involved, we expect to start 100 per cent electronic auction in the three centres in north India by January 2010,” Tea Board Chairman Basudeb Banerjee said today.
The auction centres in south India are located in Coimbatore, Kochi and Coonoor. Banerjee said, two weeks back, a milestone was reached in south India when 100 million kg of tea were sold through the e-auction route. In north India, electronic trading had started earlier in a small way at three auction centres at Kolkata, Siliguri and Guwahati in the leaf and dust varieties. “We want to start fully now,” he said.
