The markets after a firm start pared gains towards the close mainly on account of weakness in realty stocks. The Sensex touched a high of 16,423 in early trades, but eventually ended with a marginal gain of 45 points at 16,237.
Among the index stocks, DLF, Grasim and Reliance Infrastructure were the major losers, while Hindalco, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Steel, Hero Honda and Infosys were the prominent gainers.
The Sensex looks set for some losses, a possibility of at least a per cent decline in today's trade. The index may find support around 16,237-16,095, below which the index may test the 16,000-mark. The upside however seems capped around 16,380 for the day.
The NSE Nifty moved in a range of 67 points, from a high of 4,912 the index dropped to a low of 4,845, and finally settled with a gain of 11 points at 4,856.
The Nifty is likely to struggle around 4,900, while find considerable support around 4,800-4,750 for the next few trading days.
