The four-day continuous rally on the Dalal Street, which took the benchmark index Sensex to a high 17,578 points, saw seven out of the top 10 companies adding over Rs 42,000 crore to their valuation, with Reliance Industries (RIL) contributing a major chunk to it with a 7 per cent gain.
During the week, the 30-share Sensex settled at 17,578.23 points, up 411.61 points or 2.39 per cent at the end of Friday's trade on the BSE over the previous week.
The Mukesh Ambani-led RIL, the numero-uno in the list, was the biggest gainer, adding Rs 23,967.36 crore to its market capitalisation (m-cap), taking its valuation to Rs 3,56,400.56 crore. During the week, the RIL counter surged nearly 7 per cent to close at Rs 1,089.80 on the BSE on Friday.
The market valuation of the oil and gas major ONGC swelled by Rs 6,053 crore, taking its m-cap to Rs 2,25,875.37 crore. Power major NTPC, at the third place, however, saw no change in its m-cap and stood at Rs 1,67,176.7 crore.
State-run trading corporation MMTC at the fourth place was barely changed with just adding Rs 48.25 crore to Rs 1,65,045 crore, while software major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) at the fifth spot jumped Rs 5,597.59 crore in its valuation, given a boost to its m-cap at Rs 1,60,529.54 crore.
The IT bellwether Infosys Technologies at the six the position saw its valuation rise by Rs 5,204.88 crore, while mining giant NMDC at the seventh spot witnessed a value erosion of Rs 614.52 crore.
Infosys' valuation stood at Rs 1,59,163.09 crore, while NMDC declined to Rs 1,42,253.44 crore.
The country's largest public sector lender State Bank of India (SBI) was at the eight place as its valuation swelled by Rs 841.22 crore to Rs 1,30,690.05 crore during the week.
The three state-run firms--ONGC, NMDC and BHEL-- together lost Rs 9,161.62 crore from their valuation for the week ended March 20.
Private teleco Bharti Airtel and power equipment maker BHEL shuffled their earlier positions. Bharti Airtel inched up to the ninth spot after adding Rs 6,835.06 crore, while BHEL slipped to the tenth spot after losing Rs 2,494 crore from its valuation.
Bharti Airtel's saw its m-cap surged to Rs 1,18,417.55 crore, while, BHEL's valuation declined to Rs 1,16,153.31 crore.
