Turmeric prices rose 2.68% to Rs 5,294 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions, driven by an improvement in demand in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in December climbed by Rs 138, or 2.68%, to Rs 5,294 per quintal, with an open interest of 17,945 lots.

November turmeric traded higher by Rs 38, or 0.70%, to Rs 5,430 per quintal, with an open interest of 3,415 lots.

Marketmen said fresh positions created by speculators, driven by an improvement in demand in the spot market, led to rise in turmeric futures.
